Due to the facts they have never descended category in the national tournaments; have won 13 National Championships; have participated in 19 Liberators of the Americas Cups - twice vice champions in 1990 and 1998; and have won the Conmebol Cup in 1998 and the Merconorte Cup in 1998 and 2000 - Barcelona is the most successful soccer club in Ecuador.
