The pot is made of durable cast iron, an unrivaled cooking material that heats slowly but retains its heat beautifully, making it a favorite of cooks who want to craft a hearty stew or simmer a spicy chicken curry. People who don't have a means of suspending the pot over a campfire needn't worry, as the pot features four integral legs designed to nestle comfortably amidst hot coals. To remove the pot from the heat source, merely grab the thin wire handle with a sturdy oven mitt. The pot also features a heavy lid that fits tightly over the rim to seal in heat and flavors. Perhaps more impressively, the lid inverts for use as a griddle when frying bacon, flapjacks, and other hearty camping favorites. With its flanged rim, the lid can also do its cooking directly on top of hot coals. Before using Lodge natural-finish cast-iron cookware, users will need to season the pot with melted vegetable shortening and bake it in the oven for an hour.
