The Kelty Flight 3 tent is ultra-light due to its single wall construction and DAC FeatherLite aluminum poles. At 5 lb. 2 oz. minimum weight, the Flight 3 is even light enough to use as a 2-person tent with extra space for your gear or a dog. The single wall design means the tent is not covered by a full fly. Instead of the large mesh wall panels and mesh ceiling found on a double wall tent, a single wall tent uses waterproof fabric on the walls and ceiling. This eliminates the extra weight of a separate fly. The downside of a single wall design is that ventilation is often poor. This can lead to a build-up of condensation. On the Flight 3, Kelty combats the ventilation problem by using a large mesh panel on the door, and by installing pull out side vents on the tent body. Air flow is further increased through the mesh roof vent covered by a small rain fly. The Flight 3 is quick and easy to set up thanks to clips that attach the lower portion of the tent body to the poles and its freestanding design that does not need to be staked down before the tent is set up. The freestanding design also allows you to move the tent around to an ideal location before staking it down. The Kelty Arcedge construction lifts the floor seams up off the ground, eliminating these seams as a potential source of leaks. Kelty has also employed their watertight wall technology on the Flight 3 with seams shingled downward to shed water on all exposed walls. The Kelty Flight 3 comes with DAC Featherlite poles. DAC Featherlite poles are computer designed and tested, and specifically engineered for use in lightweight tents. The extra large (17.4 sq. ft.) vestibule is handy for stowing gear outside the tent.
