Coached by Ivy legend and newspaper publisher Fritz Pollard, the Bombers were one of the first great African-American teams. Pollard agreed to coach the team because of his dissatisfaction with pro-football's glacial rate of integration. NFL powerhouses, including Tim Mara's Giants and George Halas' Bears, refused outright to play the Brown Bombers. Still the Bombers played only white pro teams during their three-year run at Dyckman Oval in the Bronx, compiling an impressive 16-3-2 record. Solid brown lined canvas jacket with gold and white piping down the sleeves, snap-front closure, fold down collar, and "Brown Bombers" in gold embroidered felt script across the front. Also has a multilayered felt Brown Bombers patch sewn on the back, and has number 37 sewn on the left sleeve.
