This jersey is part of Mitchell & Ness' Hardwood Classics Collection. This authentic jersey will have the number 19 and the name 'Reed' on it. This is the same style jersey worn by Willis Reed with the 1972-73 New York Knicks. Quality Construction Authentic Materials. Accurate detailing. Exceptional workmanship. It has "New York" sewn in orange on white twill letters and the player's numbers on the front and back. The player's name is sewn on the back in white. Willis Reed, the "Captain", led the Knicks to two NBA titles. Who can forget Reed's inspirational performance in game seven of the 1970 NBA finals. Reed was the first player ever to be selected as the MVP for the regular season, all-star game, and NBA finals. THE KNICKS. A Charter member of the NBA, the knickerbockers played their first game on November 1, 1946, beating the Toronto Huskies 68-66. By the 1950-51 season, the Knicks had reached the NBA Finals. They would get to the Finals again in 1952 and 1953 but would not win the championship until the 1969-70 season. The stars of the 1950's teams included Dick McGuire, Carl Braun, Harry Gallatin, and the popular Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton. A former Harlem Gobletrotter, Clifton is credited as the first African-American to sign an NBA contract.
