Mountain climbing puts various pressures on the foot, depending on the terrain, type of boot and weight of the equipment you are carrying. Mountain climbing boots are often tight fitting to provide more control, causing shear to occur in pressure point areas of the foot. Peak impact on your foot is 1.5-2 times your body weight and can be more if you are carrying a heavy pack. The high to extreme physical strain of mountain climbing can generate over 1 cup of moisture per foot. And, since extreme environmental conditions can occur during mountain climbing, proper foot temperature regulation is critical to avoid frostbite. Mountain Climbing Thorlos are designed to wear with Liner Thorlos with ThermaStatTM and are ideal for use in mountain climbing boots. They have high-density padding at the ball and heel for extra protection on rugged terrain. Medium-density padding at the shin prevents "boot bang". Medium-density padding is also placed at the ankles and arch for extra conditioning and fit. An over-the-toe pad protects the instep against boot folds and lace pressure. A 100% worsted wool toe offers maximum warmth. A flat knit side panel allows for better fit and moisture ventilation.
