Like the Colorado River Rapids, the Club from Denver has been a Powerful Force in Major League Soccer. The state of Colorado welcomed a brand new franchise to its sporting landscape on October 17, 1995 when the Colorado Rapids were named as one of Major League Soccer's original 10 franchises. On April, in front of a crowd of 21,711, in the club's first ever home game at Mile High Stadium, the Rapids earned their first ever win with a 3 1 triumph over Dallas. In 1997, the Rapids signed Glenn "Mooch" Myernick to replace the departed Bobby Houghton. Despite struggling in the early part of the season, Myernick was soon able to get the team to gel and the Rapids were able to qualify for the postseason for the first time in team history. The Rapids defeated Dallas in the Conference Championship to earn their first trip to the MLS cup. 1998 and 1999 saw the club's best records 36 and 28 and two more playoff berths. The Rapids went on to qualify for the playoffs in 2000, 2002 and 2003.
