In 1957 they won the CONCACAF Championship. In 2001 the Blue and Whites won the UNCAF Nations Cup. This year their performances in Germany 2006 qualifying have been encouraging. They finished even on points at the top of semi final Group 2 with the same Ticos, beating out challengers Honduras and Canada along the way. With Ruiz continuing to prove himself one of the region's top marksmen and coach Ramon 'El Primitivo' Maradiaga bringing the team together like never before, one would do well to heed the Guatemalans in the final hexagonal group.
