Country: El Salvador This jacket commemorates the Football War. It started after a qualifying game for the 1970 World Cup against Honduras. After massive rioting between the fans, on July 14, 1969, the Salvadorean army launched an attack against Honduras. A cease fire was put in effect six days later. adidas is offering a special collection of authentic versions of apparel worn during the team's most memorable times. Soccer in El Salvador began in the city of Santa Ana on the field of "Campo Marte" that the first match took place. That first match took place in June of 1889. It is said that both sides had English players, who actually introduced the game in El Salvador. The first real tournament was in 1921 in celebration of the 100 years of Central American Independence. One of their great accomplishments took place in 1954, it was during the VII Mexican Olympics, against all odds, that they defeated favorites like Colombia and Mexico. It was During the 1969 World Cup qualifier that El Salvador defeated Honduras 3 - 2 resulting in a war between both countries that lasted 100 hours, and which most called the "La Guerra del futbol" (The Football War). With a header by "Mon" Martinez to defeat Haiti, El Salvador qualified for their first ever World Cup that same year. Their last World Cup match was against Argent
