Country: Peru The long and successful history of the club begins on August 7th, 1924, when a group of students of the Faculties of Medicine and Letters of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, launches the initiative of creating an excellent sporting institution, found the Federacion Deportiva Universitaria. In 1928, in their first year of First Division play, they battle the biggest team of that era: Alianza Lima in the tournament final, taking the first game 1 to 0. The year after, they win the National Title, garnering them a great following. During those early years, the "cremas" (creams) welcome the greatest figure in their history: Teodoro "Lolo" Fernandez. With this extraordinary player, the "U" obtained the 1934, 1939, 1941, 1945, 1946 and 1949 Titles, along with numerous resonant victories over powerful foreign teams. What fans enjoyed during the 60s and half of the 70s could only be called unforgettable. Not only the string of National Championships (1960, 64, 66, 67, 69, 71 and 74) which solidified the "Cream Club" as one of the best, but also their excellent campaigns of the inter club tournaments seemingly made for them: the Liberators of Americas Cup, in which they have participated 24 times as Peruvian Champions.
