The 3000 cubic inch Mountainsmith Youth Scout is an external frame backpack built with the needs of younger hikers in mind. The Youth Scout has a classic design that's been built with new technologies and materials. With plenty of volume for a youth on a weekend or multi-day backpacking trip, the Youth Scout provides comfort with organization. The suspension system is fully adjustable for torso lengths from 13"-17". The shoulder straps can be adjusted laterally for narrower or wider shoulders. This level of adjustability allows the pack to "grow" as the user grows. The S-curve foam shoulder straps and dual-density foam waistbelt add an extra measure of carrying comfort. The main compartment of the Youth Scout is loaded from the top. The top hood has a zippered compartment that's ideal for maps or stowing a rain cover. On the right side, there's a long side pocket with a pass-behind design that accommodates longer tent poles. On the left side, there are twin zippered pockets, and at the front there's a zippered dimensional pocket with a quick store bungee. Under the main pack bag, there's a sleeping bag sling. The sling design is ideal for larger sleeping bags that may not fit inside the pack bag.
