ACR TerraFix™ Personal Locator Beacon (Terrafix 406)

View In Survival/first Aid Section Of Cabela's! Anyone whose passion for the outdoors takes them far off the trail or miles from shore needs this life-saving device. The TerraFix™ 406 Personal Locator Beacon instantly transmits your location to a satellite and alerts the nearest emergency responders. Incredibly compact, at just 12 ounces, the transmitter easily fits in a pack or pocket, making it ideal for hunters, boaters and kayakers, backcountry skiers or snowshoers, mountaineers, snowmobilers or pilots. These units transmit a unique, digitally coded distress signal that is specifically registered to the user on 406 MHz via the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system. At the same time, a 121.5 MHz SAR homing frequency is emitted with an audio tone and Morse Code "P'' identifier. The satellite determines the Personal Locator Beacon location, then re-transmits the information to a ground control station along with the user's identification number. In turn, that information is relayed to the closest Rescue Coordination Center, where operators call the emergency contact phone numbers you supplied and alert the nearest emergency responder of your exact location. You can choose from two models: Both units float if dropped in the water, and they are waterproof up to 33 feet. The units are constructed of a tough glass-reinforced polycarbonate blend, and the flat, stainless steel antenna wraps compactly around the unit for storage and for quick positioning if you need to transmit. Each has simple, simultaneous two-button activation: the red LED flashing indicates it is transmitting the 406 MHz signal, while a green LED flashing tells that GPS coordinates are present and being transmitted. The included removable holster protects the unit and permits attachment to a belt, straps or webbing, or you can clip the unit to a backpack with the carabiner clip. They are powered by two lithium batteries with a replacement life of five years, and you can operate the beacon over 24 hours in temperatures as low as -4°F, and longer at higher temperatures. Comes with a 5-year warranty. Available: The TerraFix™ 406 works in conjunction with a GPS interface, allowing you to use an external hand-held GPS unit to download GPS coordinates. When activated, your latitude and longitude, along with your 406 MHz signal, are transmitted on the first burst to save valuable time in relaying your distress signal to the nearest rescuers. (The average time for emergency responders to learn your location is from 2-15 minutes). The TerraFix™ 406 with GPS includes an internal GPS that acquires your current latitude and longitude when the unit is activated. The TerraFix™ 406 Personal Locator Beacon instantly transmits your location to a satellite and alerts the nearest emergency responders. Incredibly compact, at just 12 ounces, the transmitter easily fits in a pack or pocket, making it ideal for hunters, boaters and kayakers, backcountry skiers or snowshoers, mountaineers, snowmobilers or pilots. These units transmit a unique, digitally coded distress signal that is specifically registered to the user on 406 MHz via the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system. At the same time, a 121.5 MHz SAR homing frequency is emitted with an audio tone and Morse Code "P'' identifier. The satellite determines the Personal Locator Beacon location, then re-transmits the information to a ground control station along with the user's identification number. In turn, that information is relayed to the closest Rescue Coordination Center, where operators call the emergency contact phone numbers you supplied and alert the nearest emergency responder of your exact location.
